Our structured living plan, on-site counseling, discipleship, and life-skill training helps them re-establish their lives with purpose, confidence, and support. Our program houses only women or mothers with children. They can stay for up to two years, and all residents pay a portion of their housing and are required to get jobs or go to school. acresofdiamonds.org

Young Life

Young Life

Young Life doesn’t start with a program. It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships don’t happen overnight — they take time, patience, trust and consistency.
So Young Life leaders log many hours with kids — where they are, as they are. We listen to their stories and learn what’s important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches and setbacks.
We believe in the power of presence. Kids’ lives are dramatically influenced when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God’s love with them. Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose.
This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God’s love for them, will have an impact on future decisions — careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised — all ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world.

Baby Basics

Baby Basics The concept of the program Baby Basics originated from an organization in southern New Jersey, which was providing support to low income and welfare families. In founding the first Baby Basics program in 1992, the determination was made to limit the scope of the program to only those who are working and not receiving welfare. Before I began Baby Basics, in depth research went into assessing community support for working poor families. My research found that no organization was providing a basic hygienic necessity, diapers, on a consistent basis. Baby Basics was founded to fill this unmet need. However, Baby Basics is much more than just a diaper distribution program. It is our mission to provide a supportive atmosphere and community for these hard working families. We call this kindness. Research shows that one of the four major factors of child abuse is a sense of isolation. Baby Basics strives to provide a connection to a caring community with support, a listening ear and a safe place to share daily struggles and successes thus diluting the sense of isolation for these struggling families. Our gifts of diapers and kindness would not be possible without financial support from individuals, foundations and organizations. We are grateful to each person who supports us as we do this important work.

Alongside Ministries

Alongside Ministries

Alongside Ministries is an independent ministry started in February of 2002 by Halle and Kathy August. After a short term mission trip to Nicaragua in July 2000 they and their three sons felt a strong call on their lives to return to Nicaragua as long term missionaries with the purpose of making a difference in the lives of the poor community of Chiquilistagua and Cedro Galan by sharing the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When they started they were ill-equipped linguistically to share the gospel in Spanish but felt the Lord was calling them to a relational ministry where they would share the love of Jesus Christ through their lives and actions by living in community with, or alongside, the people of Nicaragua. Starting a preschool program, a particular passion of Kathy’s, was one vehicle they used to create an environment in which they could grow in relationship with the Nicaraguan community of Cedro Galan. Not only did the preschool program provide a relational setting it was also a way to educationally improve and enhance the lives of the children and families that participated in the program, providing a quality preschool program that more than prepared the children for Kindergarten.
