A New Year

A New Year
Stretched out before me
Like a clean sheet of paper
No mistakes, no messes
No failures, no stresses

Oh Lord
If only life were like that
Neat and tidy
Simple and straightforward
Where no one gets hurt
And everyone is happy

But then there’d be no need for Jesus
He would never have come to earth
As a crying, helpless baby
Born to die on an ugly cross

For me
For you
For everyone

This New Year
Is full of hope
But there will also be hurt
Along with much happiness
We will mess up
We will learn more about living
And loving and forgiving
We will have disappointment and joys
Heart-ache, surprises
Successes, regrets
All of the mix of experiences
And emotions called life
You are the Lord of life

Thank God!
Please teach me
How to follow your lead more closely
To follow your steps in the dance of life
So that I can make less mistakes
Tread on fewer toes
And learn to dance more gracefully

Thank You, Lord, for all of
the potential and possibilities
Of the future
May I enter it unafraid
Knowing that You have gone before me
And that you will be beside me
Every step of the way

Matthew 9:16-17

Jesus said, “No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old cloak, for the patch pulls away from the cloak, and a worse tear is made. Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.

Isaiah 43:18-19

Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old. I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?

  1. Thank you for your lovely words of wisdom. To know that there will be good and bad times, and to ask for him to lead us through it all, dancing more gracefully.
