Get Out of the Boat

How far will I follow Jesus?
As far as He wants me to go
Or do I have restrictions
On just how far I am willing to grow?

How far will I follow Jesus?
Only as far as I can see
But Jesus can see the future
And everything He wants me to be

How far will I follow Jesus?
Just as long as I’m in control
But Jesus wants me to surrender
And trust Him, with my heart and soul

How far will I follow Jesus?
A few steps, here and there
But the future He’s unfolding before me
And inviting me to follow Him there

How far will I follow Jesus?
To the very ends of the earth
I want to follow wherever He leads me
Into adventure, new joy, a new birth

How far will I follow Jesus?
One step forward, then three steps back
I want to follow more boldly
But the courage to trust I often lack

How far will I follow Jesus?
I want to jump on board with Him
He’ll carry me when He needs to
He heals me and forgives all my sin

How far will I follow Jesus?
Even when I’m gripped by fear?
He knows exactly where He’s leading me
He’s always so close, He’s right here

If I want to walk on water
I must get out of the boat
And fix my eyes firmly on Jesus
So I can walk, not sink or float

How far will I follow Jesus?
I’ll follow Him my whole life long
Only He has the words and the water of life
And together we’ll sing His new song

Matthew 14:25-33

And early in the morning He came walking toward them on the sea. But when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Peter answered Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him, saying to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.”
